Flamerule 27th 1374 - Year of the Lightning Storms
Deethan teleports to his Uncle's house in Neverwinter - simply a social
call. He finds him DEAD, murdered. Casting a vision spell, he sees how the battle
occured, who his uncle's attackers are and how his uncle was over-come. He collects
what evidence he can, including an invitation
to a reunion happening in a few days time. What is really disturbing is
that one of the attackers is a face from Deethan's past - Harry Fathesque -
a mage he'd last seen dead with an assassin's cross-bow bolt through his head
some 19 years earlier.
Flamerule 28th
Deethan uses a wish spell to bring his Uncle back to life. His uncle
is disorientated, but starts to recover, staying in Deethan's "wizard's
Tower" in Baldur's Gate.. Deethan plans to track down his uncle's attackers
and kill them. He locates a bunch of them in a house in Neverwinter. He zaps
in and pretty much anialates them all.
Flamerule 29th
Having spoken to his uncle about it - Deethan decides to attend this
re-union on behalf of his recovering uncle. He spends the day chilling out with
his uncle (who writes an introduction letter to Faelar (one of Bergis's old
adventuring companions and the person who had arranged the reunion, 5 years
on from their last big adventure - see the reunion
invitation letter)) and then prepares himself to teleport the next day.
Flamerule 30th - Midsummer Eve
Deethan teleports to Waterdeep, and makes his way to the Jade Jugg
- the location for the welcome dinner - early in the day, the true celebrations
due to take place on the following night on Midsummer's Day. At the "lunch
time" meeting, he meets the following people:

COMMENT |
| Deethan |
"My Uncle was attacked by a group of thugs and assassins hired from a local guild in Neverwinter" Deethan states after a moment. "They were led by a figure I recognised as a powerful magic user and member of the Iron Throne named Harry Fathesque." Deethan shrugs. "Of course, many years earlier, I also witnessed the same Harry Fathesque assassinated by an assassin of the Black Hand assassin network, paid for by wizards from the Arcane Brotherhood as they attempted to steal a certain artefact from him." He glances at Garrett. "It seems Fathesque had some powerful friends that thought it worth while bringing him back from the dead..." |
| Faelar Kell-Orsil |
"Two days ago, my home was attacked by a powerful force of drow mages and warriors. While I would normally expect that my history of success against them would warrant such an attack, and that drow would not be in allegiance with N'Telquessir, the use of renegade elves in at least two other attacks upon folk associated with this circle of friends and relations tells me that someone has created such an alliance, and that would be no easy task". "House badges from the deceased showed drow from both Menzoberranzan and Chad Nesad. More intestesting in that interrogation of the dead revealed that these drow were working for a priest of Vhaerun named Olath Velve, the Black Blade. This Olath Velve appears to be involved in somehow combining the efforts of multiple drow houses in multiple cities." |
| ...Shay'la (henchman) |
|
| Garrett Cinnear |
"For some odd reason some priests of Bane went to an extrodinary amount of effort to apparently capture myself and my young associate alive." "I suppose I can clarify further on mine. There
were two hired to capture or kill me, two calishamites by the names of
Fahad and Sylphia, a brother and sister. While I'm quite unhappy with
their actions they weren't totally unsympathetic. . Sylphia at one point
was somewhat disgusted by some actions the priests were attempting to "However, the leader of the priests was referred to as 'High Imperceptor Ghordoon'. I believe he is a bit bigger a fish. I should like to see him on a hook" |
| ...Roni Goodberry ...(henchman) |
|
| Ennelda the Enchantress | "But mistress what of the black dragon and the BlackGuard knight who attacked you two days ago while you were falconing." "This is not the same. That was not a serious attack just a bad luck encounter for him when he assumed I was an easy mark and a rich noble." "His bones and ashes and that of his dragon will
bother no one anymore." |
| ...Myria | |
| ...Shondra | |
| Rane Volimar |
"My wife and I recently had a tragic loss. One of her students was kidnapped and quite a few others including herself were wounded when they were attacked by a large group of ... hired thugs led by elves and half elves." "We had assembled in one of the numerous little parks in the City of the Dead as they provide such perfect places for training and concentration and a backdrop and reminder of what passes when we fail in our duties. I became aware of a gathering of small groups watching us. When I had counted a good four dozen scattered in groups of twos and threes I realized something was not right." "Before I could get my class to prepare they attacked. Two dozen ruffians and hired thugs surged in and attacked my students with clubs and daggers. A second group had us encircled and used bows to pick off stragglers. They had with them a powerful mage and a warrior of exceptional skill. Both of these two were elves as were a good half of the second group with bows. I beleive they had hired the others to keep us distracted. A great many were hurt but fortunately none were killed. But when they finally ran off one of my students was missing." |
...Carlett Volimar ...(Rane's wife) |
|
| Derrick | "In the past 4 days, I have had 3 attempts on my
life. One on the way to Waterdeep by a swashbuckler and his followers in
a very well laid out ambush. Again, the following morning as I was resting
and recooperating from the first attempt and a third time after I got to
Waterdeep and did some rather blatant inquiries trying to flush my prey
out. It worked, but they were even more prepared than the first time. The
cult of pain, the Banities, were one of the two options for those behind
the attacks, but I hadn't narrowed it down past that."
"I have never encountered these people and know not why they are after me, but I know enough about those sent after me that I will hunt them down before I leave Waterdeep and deal with them for accepting a contract on me." "The swashbuckler that attacked in is named Sorg Hornblower. He is the leader of a small militia called the Silent Death Company. The other is an information source that turned out to be working with him named Hendrick, a wizard of some skill." "All three times I encountered these people, they
were hoping to take me alive. Sorg even commented that with what he was
being paid, he could kill me, raise me and then turn me over." |
| OTHER PEOPLE INVITED BUT NOT PRESENT | |
| Drance | "This first message is from the son of Randal Morn of Daggerdale whom our friend Drance served. It appears that Drance was ambushed on his way here...by a black knight on a black dragon leading an army of goblins. I think I am starting to lend credence to our theory of conspiracy, and that is a hasty move for me. " |
| Monthos | "The second note is from Monthos, master of Florian. He is pursuing the kidnappers of a priest of Corellon in the High Forest. According to this note, the attackers were a group of renegade elves led by a particular foul person who lives here in Waterdeep. Other attackers on his monastery have also been traced here to the city of splendors. I grow concerned indeed". |
Following the various conversations and realisations that there seemed to be a big plot afoot - the group decided to do a little pro-active investigation of their own. Choosing to scry Harry Fathesque, the group found the man riding horses in Sembia with a bunch of nobles. The scrying was detected, and a sudden (somewhat rash) decision was made to gather everyone together, prepare loads of spell defenses and then teleport to Sembia to ambush them...
Of course, by the time they'd finished preparing themselves, their enemies had made some preparations too. The group managed to do some damage, but a fair number of our enemies escaped, including Harry Fathesque. It turned out that one of the "nobels" with Harry Fathesque was in fact the Primarch of Sembia... suddenly a diplomatic incident had been created! LINK TO BATTLE. We did however find a piece of paper listing various mercenary organisations/assassin guilds with a number of them crossed out. [
At the end of the battle, the group teleported back to the private room in the Jade Jugg, and decided to leave immediately. Faelar suggested that they go to Faelar's mansion.
On route, the group bumped into Kyle - an old friend of Derrick, and Leathynos. The latter was a pure stranger, who for some reason was persuaded to walk with them whilst being "chatted up" by Garrett. Before long however, something was to happen which would bind her to us more strongly - a shared experience - namely an attack by the demon Cathezarr, which appeared in the middle of the street. The battle was won, but only by Faelar calling in a favour with Khelben Blackstaff! <LINK TO BATTLE>
Having spoken with the archmage, Faelar changed the group's destination to
the Yawning Portal instead, wanting to meet with a couple of people - Durnan
and Mirt - two ex-adventurers (and owners of the Yawning Portal) who might be
able to help the group.Whilst waiting for Durnan to appear, we first met Jewelia
- who appeared to simply be a female adventurer looking to recruit people to
go down into Undermountain to look for a book. Derrick also spotted and then
went to speak to Sorg Hornblower(
)
- the leader of the band of assassins/mercs who had been after him. Derrick
speaks with him, and then agrees to buy a reprieve on his "contract"
and also some information. He also speaks with Jewelia
(having missed speaking to her earlier). In the meanwhile, the rest of the group
went down into the wine cellars to wait for Durnan, where Deethan cast a Mage's
Private Sanctum spell to give the partysome peace from scrying. Since the episode
in Sembia, the group had been scryed several times - by three unknown people,
and also by the house mage Eyrienar Hondler of the Saerloonian
Noble family Hondler is attempting to scry on you from his spellcasting chamber
in the family mansion, and later by Hamsted Focht of House
Anakur in Saerloon..
Midsummer Day - Pre-dawn
Deethan woke early and teleported to his home in Baldurs Gate, where he collected his uncle and his spellbooks, as well as a large scrying mirror which he put in the sack of holding before returning to the cellars of the Yawning Portal. The group, having prepared themselves, found that the tavern above had been filled with mercenaries. A crossbow bolt with a warning from Sorg let them know of the situation, and they decided to spring the trap. <LINK TO BATTLE>. In the battle were Banites (led by High Imperceptor Ghordoon) and assassins led by Fahad (and his sister Sylphia). Deethan nearly took out Sylphia, but didn't quite manage to finish the job, making Fahad's contract personal, and similarly Garrett nearly took out Ghordoon. Unfortunately the Banites managed to take his body away and through a gate of some sort to a shadowy realm. To Sorg's suprise, his man Olath helped Deethan survive by attacking Fahad when the Calimishite had Deethan at his mercy. Faelyar's companion Shay'la died, and Derrick and Kyle were sucked into a shadowy realm after being hit by some powerful runes. At the end of the battle, when the Waterdeep Watch were turning up, the survivors teleported to outside the Elven Embassy - where Faelar and Deethan argued about the next course of action (and the embassy elves treated Deethan poorly I might add!).
Midsummer Day - Dawn
Deethan then teleported Leathynos, Bergis and Roni to his home in Baldur's gate, only to find that it has been invaded within the last hour or so by drow and spiders from the Underdark. Within moments, Garrett also joined them. They battled spiders and drow, only to be beaten (Bergis was killed - his body cut to shreds by a blade barrier spell). They were "rescued" by another group of drow who teleported in and killed the drow attacking them. This was all part of some ruse - with the 2nd group of drow pretending that Deethan actually was Olath Velve. Deethan was told that he had been set up to appear to be Olath Velve, and that the "Hunters of Lolth" would be seeking him - probably to simply take the heat off the real Olath Velve!
Midsummer Day - Early Morning
Once all the drow had gone, some other people turned up - Keld, Deethan's long time friend and Pavlov - sent by Ennelda to see if he can help us (link to letter from Ennelda). Another couple of people turned up as well - an old man named Jeb and a woman named Diamond.- who represented Jewelia - the woman we'd met briefly in the Yawning Portal the day before. They came with an invitation to lunch later that day at the Jade Jugg - apparently to gather together those of like mind who feel threatened by the "Cabal" for mutual protection and support. Pavlov says he will do what he can to help, and heads off to grab his wife Kaitlyn and his companions Tobias.
Midsummer Day - Mid Morning
Garrett plain shifted the group to Celestia, where Deethan proceeded to perform
some scrying and Tobias performed a divination(
).
Garrett, Deethan and Leathynos then drank a potion to enable them to artifically
rest - sleeping for only an hour but as effective as a whole night's sleep.
Midsummer Day - Lunch time
Having relearnt spells, the group plainshifted and teleported again - this time back to Waterdeep and the Jade Jugg, for their meeting with Jewelia. Several new people were met at this meeting, as well as one or two old faces as well:
| NAME |
Description |
Jewelia, Onyx is another of Jewelia's Jewels - but died in Halruua |
Description: Her beauty is stunning
and draws the eye. She is dressed in a floor length blue dress with a
belt of links of metal and gemstones cinching it at her waist. Ancient History:
"Earlier I apprenticed for my mother who is a very practiced spellcaster.
But being a daughter and an apprentice left it scars. Scars that I sometimes
feel to this day it seems. - I once served with the other apprentices
to a harsh taskmistress. I too have broken open my fair share of wizards
towers to plunder there collected works at her order. To further her skills
and spells. - But such is not my way and it has been a very very long
time since I had to resort to such crude tactics." Recent Actions in relation to the "Cabal": "A quite intensive series of divinations, auguries and contacting the denizens of other plains to uncover that Uncle Ollie would be a good partner for her." Who attacked Jewelia: Three attacks - 1) A magical assault on her tower was first. Somehow someone was able to bypass her defensive wards and teleport a pair of powerful elementals into her library. A massive fire elemental and a massive air elemental. 2) After this was a fire at her shop of magical wares in Neverwinter. Two of those that worked in the shop did not make it out as the doors and windows had been magically locked and the building was ensorcelled to prevent any magical telelportations out of it. 3) And the last was a creature of shadow, a Mezzodaemon, came at her when she was coming to find me a couple of days ago. And trust me it was not a peaceful meeting the arrival of that mezzodaemon. Jewelia was able to banish it but at great peril to herself. |
Jeb, |
Description: A brown robed man with a simple white leather belt with a large blue star sapphire set on the buckle. He wears a silver hued cloak over the top of his robe with the hood thrown back revealing a definite receeding hairline on his increasingly greying hair. His face is pale like one who spends a great deal of time indoors and from appearances he has seen 40 to 50 winters or so. His eyes are large and thoughtful and full of intelligence behind a well made pair of reading glasses. In his right hand he bears a large wooden staff covered in scrolling symbols of Mystra, Deneiir, Finder, Oghma, Savrtas, and Azuth. Simple leather sandals are strapped to his feet. |
| Diamond (1 of Jewelia's Jewels) |
Description: A women dressed in tight fitting white leathers. Pants, boots, vest, and right shoulder held half cloak are all made of a very stylish and fashionable cut all in white dyed leather. Her nearly straw colored blonde hair is long and tied back in a ponytail which hangs over her right shoulder leaving the left shoulder bare. She wears a plethora of jewels. Her necklace is fashionable and expensive looking with intermixed diamonds and onyx gems set into a silver and gold chain whose links are mixed. Matching earrings studded with bright blue sapphires and diamonds accent the rings she wears on each finger each with a large well formed stone. Bangles and charms literally dance from her chest and forearms as she moves. Her face however is one of cautious determination. Even as one of her hand rests lightly on the gem hilted dagger at her hip. A dagger almost as long as a short sword but with colors of all the rainbow in tiny gems set into the pommel as grip enhancers and decoration. |
| Saphire (1 of Jewelia's Jewels) |
Description: One is dressed in a deep blue silk shirt with a black vest stitched in silver threading. She wears short cropped hair more in the style of a man than that of a woman but her eyes are mischiveous and twinkle with mirth. |
Ruby |
Description: The other with the wand wears a red dress with embroidery of flowers up the side and down both sleeves down to the lace which half covers each hand. She too has dark hair but it is pulled into a long pair of braids to either side. Her face is a bit pinched as if she had just eaten something that disagreed with her. |
Emerald |
Description: The third appears to be more of an outdoorsman in dress. She wears leather breeches dyed a deep green and a matching leather half coat. Her blouse is the palest of creams in color and she wears a short sword at her hip. |
Uncle Ollie, |
Description: One is a fat but very well dressed man. He wears a brocaded shirt of deep blue with puffy sleeves striped in black. Threading of silver and gold is woven into the fabric and it probably cost the equivalent of many years wages for an average merchant. Rings glitter from each of his pudgy fingers as well as a pair of heavy looking golden chains hanging around his neck. His hair is thinning and pulled forward over his pate to try and mask the fact. His Trade: "How goes the winds of trade of commerce in Cormyr now that the Ghazneth and the Demon Dragon have been vanquished. I have quite a few merchant caravans that ply the various tradeways. Costers and tradeships to Luskan, Baldurs Gate, Calimport and the Moonshaes. I have regular caravans down the Tradeway to Scornubel and Westgate. Others down the Coast Road to Daggerford and Baldurs Gate. I even ... hmmmpfhh... Sometimes take the Black Road to the Moonseas." Who attacked Ollie: Two attacks: 1) A horde of large spiders from the depth of the Underdark summoned into his house. Many of his manservants were killed ere his two bodyguards there. 2) He also tells of an attempted poisoning the night before and a large and very suspicious fire in his offices. |
| Khorne and Kyle (Bodyguards to Ollie) |
Description: The two standing men are heavily muscled very burly looking Sky Pony barbarians wearing heavy pants and boots but remaining bare chested with sheathed swords at hip as they stand behind the pudgy looking merchant. Many of the party recognize them from the Yawning Portal as the large guys who were sitting at the table blocking Sorg's meeting with him lieutenants from the public. |
| Sarthe (Mage Companion to Uncle Ollie) |
Description: Another sits in well tailored clothes of the latest fashionable cut in Waterdeep. He wears a half cloak of deep red slung over one shoulder. He is dark skinned and has the look of the southern lands of Calimshan about him. His hair is curled and oiled and he has a twirled mustache with the twirls pulled out impossible long as if he is very vain about his appearance. TRUE Seeing Description: He looks like a dark skinned southerner but with true seeing Deethan sees not 1 but 2 separate illusions. That one. Which sits on top of a second which is that of a drow male. But underneath it all is a dark skinned man of Calimshan but completely different in appaearance to the illusion that he presents. |
| Barthalamus (House mage to Uncle Ollie) |
Description: Sitting beside him is an obvious mage in a black cloak with the hood pulled forward covering his face only leaving the chin showing. His hands are pushed up the sleeves of his cloak as he lightly leans on the table. |
| Sebastian (the Chief Clerk of the Consortiums finances) |
Description: The third is a skinny man dressed in simple black. He has ink stained fingers and a smudge of ink on his nose. He too is starting to lose his hair but has instead cut it short and does not seem to care too much about it. A heavy golden chain with a seal hangs around his neck. This third man you also recognize from the Yawning Portal as he had been sitting with the two large barbarians and had later come around to the party offering them possible adventuring contracts after Jewelia had done so. |
| Talin KrellWeather (of the Cormyrean KrellWeathers "I am a Knight Commander of the Purple Dragons" ) |
Description: One wears a mithral breastplate embossed with a silver sparrowhawk with fire opals set for eyes over a chainmail hauberk which hangs down to his knees. He wears a belted longsword at hip and has laid a very elaborate helmet on the table with an sparrowhawk motive closely matching that of his breastplate. His well trimmed mustache completements his sun darkened and lined face quite well lending him a commanding and handsome aura. History: He tells a story of what is transpiring in his family estates back in what used to be an outlying district of Tilverton. A lich has overtaken his old castle which his family had abandoned some years before when they moved to the City of Arabel. Undead and shadowy creatures have been roaming and terrorizing the countryside. He has petitioned the King's Regent to send a detachment of Purple Dragons under his command to reenforce his families retainers as they conduct a reconnaisance in force to recapture the castle and lands if possible and to find out what is going on in the shadowy areas that used to be Tilverton. Due the ravages of the Demon Dragon and the Nine over the last 2 years that Cormyr has seen so many of its brave sons and daughters die on the battlefield. Who attacked Talin: "He had been meeting with some adventurers he had hired to investigate and scout out his old familial estate when Jewelia scried him. He had been preparing the way to retake his old ancestral home. A great army of undead had arisen and were in the process of attacking him and the adventurers in a small druids grove before he regrouped with his army. A powerful group of undead which we later found out were being led by a powerful lich by the name of Krell. An ancient Halruaan from right after the time of Karsus' Folly. Ancient old and powerful."
|
| Mitchall (Aide de Camp to Talin (Priest of Lathander)) |
Description: Seated to either side of him sit plate armored priests. One with a large red bear and red curly hair, the holy symbol for Lathander the morning lord embossed and engraved all over his armor. |
| Hendrick (Aide de Camp to Talin (Priest of Torm)) |
Description: Seated to either side of him sit plate armored priests. One with close cropped blond hair. One bears the scales of Justice and the Open Hand of Torm embossed and engraved all over his armor. |
Dryfton Farstrider of the Harmonium and the Order of Temportal and Magical Inquistion. |
Description: A man in simple homespun brown dyed wool with a rope belt at his waist. He wears sandals. But he has a great many wands tucked into his belt and also like the Watchful Order wizardess, there is a large and ornate staff leaning on the table to his side. Information: Apparently Dryfton is not even from this world and maybe not even from this plain. He mentions a City of the Spire a few times and how he belongs to an Order of Arcanists who protect magic throughout the multiverse. He finds Faerun a perplexing study as remarks that the plaint has two primary spell matrixes where some plaints have a primary and a secondary and some plaints have no matrixes at all. Capabilities: "Well as I travel to lots of plains and places and sometimes I go where there is no magical matrix at all I have fashioned a spell similar to a fixed area antimagic shell or a moving area antimagic skein. The difference is that I can trap a piece of the spell matrix and bring it with me. The primary effect is that I can turn on and turn off the various threads of the matrix thereby disrupting or enabling certain schools of magic. A selective magical filter. But it also has the ability to completely take a piece of magical matrix even into a place where there is no magic though this drains the spell much faster." |
| Esmerelda DeWinter | Description: One woman wears a slash skirted riding dress of browns and greys twined in a pattern resembling roses and flowering vines. She wears elbow length riding gloves and sits .. uncomfortably ... in her chair as if she has been riding long today which is seemed to be confirmed by the smudges and half wiped away trail stains on her dress. |
| Galina of the Watchful Order of Waterdeep. ("The Nightmaster she is called and second in command of the cities mages.") |
Description: A haughty looking spellcaster whom Deethan recognizes. It is the woman who had cast the webbing on him this morning and arrived with the other mages of the Waterdhavian Watchful Order to quell the fighting at the Yawning Portal. |
| Sir Rook of the Silver Order of Silverymoon. |
Description: The warrior dressed in battered plate armor with the large bastard sword hilt protruding from over his back who had just pulled his chair back to th table pulls a small wooden toothpick from a small pouch at his belt and as he covers his mouth with one armored gauntlet begins to pick out something stuck between his teeth using the gauntlet to semi-hide his activities. |
| Sorg Hornblower of the Silent Death merc company |
Description: One you recognize immediately as the jaunty mercenary captain Sorg Hornblower of the Silent Death mercenary company. He sits there in deep purple dyed leather pants with knee high black polished boots which he currently has propped on the table as he is leaning backwards at a precipitous angle with his chair. A large billowy white shirt with the sleeves held down with heavy metal bracers completes his outfit but you see his trademark pair of matched rapiers belted about his waist. His face is as always shining from within with hints of mirth and humor at some hidden joke. As he sees the party he touches his nose slightly and winks. |
When the PCs arrived, it seemed as if Uncle Ollie and Jewelia were trying to
trust each other. Jewelia wanted Ollie to accept a gift of one of her daggers,
and Uncle Ollie wanted Jewelia and everyone else to "drink" from his
Chalice of Conspirators. The group had been
brought together by Jewelia, because she's been attacked, and discovered that
multiple other people had also been attacked. They had met the previous morning,
and that meeting had been interrupted by an attack by Cathezarr.
Mitchell cast a divination spell, which
didn't really do much to help everyone... Jewelia mentioned some theories(
)
about why she, Ollie, Talin and Esmerelda were targets. The
orc siege of Mithral Hall was also discussed briefly - in the context of
the Flaming Fist Merc company and Keld's connections.
In a pause in the meeting, Jewelia and Ollie spoke alone and settled their differences - Ollie taking the dagger, and Jewelia drinking from the chalice. Jewelia had discovered Cathezarr's lair - below a gambling den underneath a warehouse in Neverwinter. The meeting ended, and half of the group (Talin, Mitchall, Hendrick, Rook, Drftton, Sorg, Jewelia, Jeb, the Jewels, and the PCs) left via a teleportation cirlce to go to Jewelia's home in Neverwinter. Jeb and the Jewels then went off to Jewelia's other place - Stonewood Tower? Further Divinations were cast here by Roni and Baranthus.
Midsummer Day - Afternoon
The group split into three to make their way to the warehouses, before entering the secret arena area. The group mingled for a while, trying to find out information. First Deethan, and then Pavlov cast spells - causing the Spell Engine to appear and spin.Outside, on the streets above, Faelar turned up with a bunch of elven wariors, meeting with Leathynos. They storm the building - joining those below just as combat started there. Faelar also informed Leathynos that "Evermeet was raided. A tower of high sorcery. A piece of the GateKeepers Crystal which was being held in guard by the elves as a threat to our homelands mythal was stolen. I tracked the maker of the devices that allowed intruders to penetrate Evermeet's defenses to this street in NeverWinter but lost the trail."
In the battle, the party got pretty beat up - even before we met with Cathezaarr
- and so we bugged out - plain-shifting back to Celestia, where we started to
rest up. About 20 minutes later, we get a sending from Jewelia and co.
"Jewelia sends. We returned. Cathezarr captured. We question him and
others. Forewarned. He sent demonic assassins. Tonight Cabal strikes openly.
Waterdeep. Skullport. Neverwinter. Near Arabel."
15 minutes later, Deethan gets another sending from Jewelia-
"Cathezarr charmed pet. Not member Cabal. Minion. His part bring planar
army Waterdeep. Targets. Ollie. Me. Talin. Mages Priests of Power. Oartreal
safe. Come Party."
Eleasias 1st - early hours of the moning
During the night, the group were scryed 5 times, by a planar being in Celestia,
by Faelar from the Ardeep Forest, from Jewelia
in her tower in Neverwinter Woods, from an unknown person in
Skullport, and from the female magic user who accompanied the Primarch of Saerloon,
from Waterdeep.
Having rested and re-learned spells, Deethan pulled his tall mirror out of the bag of holding, and performed a scrying or two. Lea finally does another smaller scale scrying, and then Garrett plain-shifts the group back to the Prime material plain, and the then Deethan teleports the group to Skullport.
Here, they find that Monthos has rescued his wife Florianna, with the help of Rugadh Faoi - a drow who is trying to change her stripes. Unfortunately, Rugadh Faoi decided to take matters into her own hands, and attacked the ship (the Southern Star) that belonged to the slave owver, and left Monthos and Florianna with a large group of mercenaries just outside the Burning Ttoll Inn - with instructions to "watch them for half-an-hour". Shortly after, Deethan and the others (Pavlov, Kaitlyn, Tobias, Garrett, Roni, Leathynos and Keld) arrive, just before a HUGE dimensional lock settles down over the entire city. There is a tense moment for several minutes - 5 of the mercenaries appear to work for Sorg (Stirge, Marcus, Raven, Konrad and Steiger) The officiall leader of the mercenaries is named Colban. Stirge comes to a decision and persuades Colban to leave.
The group moved off to another inn, the "Witches Teets Flophouse"
- where they discussed their plans and re-introduced everyone who didn't know
each other. On route there was a bright white flash - which was an epic dispellation,
dispelling protective magics - Garrett thought that it was one of the functions
of the Gatekeeper Crystal!. When they go to the inn, Lea had a sudden vision(
).
Rugadh Faoi suggests that the group should go to the Promenade to "warn"
the good drow there that an attack is imminent. Nobody else wants to go - so
she polymorphs into a giant bumble bee and goes on her own. The rest of the
group decide to head down to the docks to see if they can rescue Floramir -
who Deethan had previously located on Skull Island. Deethan does a daring solo
rescue and manages to rescue both Floramir AND Derrick. In Deethan's absence,
the rest of the group start to head towards the Promenade. Deetham, with Floramir
and Derrick in tow, meet with them at about the same time that Rugadh Faoi returns
from her own mission.
The group decide to go to the Burning Troll inn again, where Rugadh Faoi goes to speak with a local information gatherer - known as Irusyl Eraneth. Some half an hour later, Irusyl gets a warning of an impending attack and heads outside - we join her. The Gatekeeper crystal is used again and a massive sphere of anti-magic is created. Vampire monks attack, along with enemy spellcasters using the shadow weave, and assassins. Irusyl turns out to be one of the chosen of Mystra - named Laeral Arunsun. She is killed by an assassin's crossbow bolt. Garrett dimension doors, taking almost everyone to safety, along with Laeral's body. Keld, Derrick and Menion are left behind. At the warehouse, the group decide to escape before Laeral's assassins track them down to retrieve her body. They plainshift to the border ethereal plain, leaving Deethan behind - the mage wanting to track down Keld.
Meanwhile Keld ran and fought, before finally falling, just in time to be saved by Menion, who transported him to the border shadow plain (where magic still worked) - and brought him back from the edge of death. Derrick, having stolen some magic items, including Laeral's staff, from the enemies, heads to his own Skullport bolt-hole and rests up somewhat. Deethan heads into an inn and waits for the magic to come back - holding his handy haversack upside down to get access to it's contents when the magic returns.
Meanwhile, Menion, travelling via the Border Shadow plain, takes Keld to the Promenade, where they find it under siege, and soon get sucked into the fighting. When magic returns, Keld gets caught by the temple defenses after he heroically rushed forward to trigger the tunnel defenses at the entrance.
The others approach the Promenade via the Border Ethereal plain, seeing some way into the Prime and coming across the attacking armies from behind. It seemed that there was some drow on drow attacking going on - involving various drow houses (Xorlarrin and Shobolar), and drow belonging to the Dragon's Hoard mercenary band. When the magic returned, they got ejected from the Border Ethereal plane (the dimensional lock also has some form of function to return summoned creatures to their home plains), and found themselves on the outside of the siege. They got involved in a skirmish with the rear guard of the drow army, but DID manage to rescue Menion, who had been lying unconcious amongst the wounded from earlier. As the drow army finally fall back, the main party hide and then return to the Promenade properly,
